Dr. Michael Rowland has had but a moment to reflect on the move of his 15 year practice in Jonesville, Va., to his new office in New Tazewell.
Rowland Veterinary Service has literally dropped to the floor running as new patients keep the door swinging and established clients from Virginia choose to make the journey to the new facility rather than find another doctor for their beloved pet.
Receptionist Jessica Carmon says she is amazed at the amount of traffic since the Feb. 12 opening of the new office.
“We’ve stayed busy, not only with scheduled patients but also with walk-ins,” she said.
A Claiborne County native, Rowland says his dream for many years has been to move back home and supply his hometown with the kind of old time service to which his grandparents were accustomed.
“I want to be accessible. I want my clientele to feel comfortable picking up a phone and calling me with questions about their pets or any livestock concerns,” said Rowland.
Growing up in the farming community of the Cave Springs area, Rowland says he cannot remember a time when caring for animals was not uppermost in his mind and heart.
“I am so blessed to be able to live my dream of being a veterinarian. I feel I am providing a real service to pet owners as well. A pet is a treasured member of a family,” he said.
A 1985 graduate of Claiborne County High School, Rowland pursued his education at the University of Tennessee where he earned his Master’s degree in Reproductive Physiology in 1994 and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1999.
Rowland Veterinary Services is a mixed animal practice for both small and large animals, whether companion or food producing. The service provides preventative medicines, treatment, surgery and boarding facilities.
Rowland anticipates adding grooming services in the near future.
The new facility is located at 1210 Hwy. 33 South, across from DeRoyal Manufacturing.
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.
