Jerlene Adkins

Jerlene Adkins, age 71, of Speedwell, Tenn., passed away February 14, 2013, in Lima, Ohio. She was born December 11, 1941, in Fork Ridge, Tenn. to Clyde and Roxie Hammitte.

She is survived by her husband Charles E. Adkins and they had been married over 49 years.

She is survived by her daughter: Sharon Adkins; sons: Terry (Denise) Adkins and Ronald (Loretta) Adkins; granddaughter: Roxanne Adkins; grandsons: Chaz Adkins and Sammy Herrell; sister: Faye Lepper of Van Wert, Ohio and brother: Thomas (Marti) Hammitte of Luxley, Alabama; numerous nieces and nephews and many aunts and cousins.

May she rest in peace.

Georgia Bryant

Georgia Elaine (Nida) Bryant, age 70 of New Tazewell, Tenn., passed away Friday, February 15, 2013, at the U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

She was born in Rose Hill, Va., on May 3, 1942, to the late Wheeler and Ethel Nida.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bruce Bryant in 2002.

Survivors are: daughter, Judy Garrett of New Tazewell, Tenn. Son, Bobby (Kay) Bryant of Tazewell, Tenn. Grandchildren, Dewayne (Jessica) Bryant of Maynardville, Tenn., Amy Burgess of Tazewell, Tenn., Robby (Tara) Bryant of New Tazewell, Tenn., Nicki (Dwight) Seal of Maynardville, Tenn., Kevin (Makayla) Bryant of Tazewell, Tenn. Several Great grandchildren. Sister, Sue Roark of Rose Hill, Va., and Jouette Ayers of Fredericksburg, Va. Special Aunt Syble Jones of Rose Hill, Va.

Vola Burford

On January 30th Vola Mae Burford of Harrogate, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home, her husband of 38 years Dale Burford was by her side. She was a lifelong woman of God and a member of the Chester Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Ella Ellison; three brothers, Sewell, J.D. and Orville Ellison and one sister, Edith Donahoe.

She leaves a large family: Dale Burford her husband; Daughters: June, Patricia and Vickie of Naples, Florida; four stepchildren: Donna, Delilah, Pebble of West Virginia and Sam Burford of Fresno, California. She also leaves a legacy of 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Graveside service 3 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Fairview Cemetery. Coffey Funeral Home in charge.

Jennie Cunningham

Mrs. Jennie Welda Callebs Cunningham, age 87 of New Tazewell, was born January 27, 1927, passed away on February 7, 2013, at Lafollette Medical Center.

Survived by sons: Ted and Christine Callebs of New Tazewell; Danny and Becky Callebs of New Tazewell. Grandchildren: Wayne and Brandon Callebs. Great grandchildren: Haley, Jake, Jessie, Christine and Chloe. Great-great grandchildren: Mason Wilder. Several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. The family received friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Coffey Funeral Home with funeral service at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel. Edith Fultz

Mrs. Edith Geneva Brooks Fultz, age 93 of Harrogate, Tenn., passed away February 15, 2013, at Tri-State Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 1, 1919, to Julia Long Brooks and Ben Brooks Sr. of Harrogate. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Hubert Fultz, one son-in-law, Clifford Peters and one grandson, Derrick Montgomery and grandson-in-law, Lawrence Lankford. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ben Jr., Cecil and Woodrow Brooks and one sister, Edna Brooks Hensley. She was a member of Shawanee Baptist Church and enjoyed being with her family for events and dinners.

She is survived by seven children: Fred and Karen Fultz, Gail Miracle, Terry Fultz, Linda Fultz, Brenda and Bill Montgomery, Bill and Joyce Fultz, Burnettia Peters, Bennie and Junior Massengill, Mary Jo Slover and David Miracle. She has 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. A special niece: Shirley Bente and caregiver, Susan Shearer. Two sisters-in-law: Geneva Lambert Brooks and Bernice Fultz Cook, and a host of extended family and friends.

Nida Lambert

Mrs. Nida Lambert, age 84 of Harrogate, Tenn., was born July 13, 1928, and passed away February 7, 2013.

She was a very faithful member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University and retired as a teacher from the Claiborne County School System.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Axie (Giles) Ray. Husband of 49 years: George Stewart Lambert. Brothers: Howard Ray and Sisle Ray. Sister: Olean Ray.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Barbara Gail and Don Wolfe of Morristown, Tenn. Grandchildren: Amy Seals and husband Chad; Chris Wolfe and wife Christy; Angie Burton. Great Grandchildren: Jeremiah, Emma and Maggie Seals; Tinley Wolfe; Braden Burton. Sister: Zelma Robinson. Several nieces and nephews and host of other relatives and friends.

The family received friends Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home. Funeral Services were conducted Monday, February 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with the Rev. Stewart Fultz and the Rev. Eddie Overholt officiating. Music was provided by Mt. Gilead Church Choir. Burial in the Burchett Cemetery

Doria Moss

Doria L. (Redmon) Moss, age 68 of Monroe, died at 3:05 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, in her home.

Born May 17, 1944, she was the daughter of the union of John and Hassie (Maddox) Redman in Tazewell, Tenn.

Doria married Lawrence Raines and from this union they had two daughters, Teresa (Calvin) Gayle Carmack of Tazewell, Tenn., and Brenda (Tim) Faye Casey of Owensboro, Ky. Lawrence passed away on April 10, 1971. Doria then had a long-term relationship with Marion “Bob” Moss. From this relationship they had three sons, Marion (Karen) Lynn Raines of Dundee, Mich., Michael (Tracy) Robert Moss of Monroe and Jeffery Eugene Moss of Monroe. Doria and Bob were married on July 9, 1990. He passed away May 8, 1997. Doria is also survived by a step-son Randolph (Mary) Moss of Monroe; four step-daughters, Carolyn Brinson of Monroe, Patty Kanalas of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Brenda Sutton of LaSalle, and Kelly (Dale) Wegner of Toledo, Oh.; two brothers, John “Pete” Redmond of Tazewell, Tenn., and James (Lucille) Redman of Crossville, Tenn.

Doria will be missed by grandchildren Jeremy, Keisha, Nikki, Kayla, Ashley, Cody, Jonathan, Joshua, and Jacob. Doria also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Kailee, Ja’Vari, and Chelsea. Doria has many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Doria worked at many restaurants in the Monroe area until getting a job at the General Motors Willow Run Plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan in 1977, retiring in 1994.

She was a graduate and class valedictorian of Forge Ridge High School in Harrogate, Tenn., and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years.

In addition to the deaths of Doria’s parents and husbands, she was preceded by a brother Roger “Reldon” Redmond and two sisters, Mary Magdaline Fleeman and Sara “Christine” Patman; a step-son Bobby Dean Moss, and two step-daughters, Shelby Jean Heck and Linda Lou Michael.

Friends could visit from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 – 8 p.m. Friday at Rupp Funeral Home where services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Elder Obediah Lucio of the Kingdom Hall will officiate followed by a luncheon at the Monroe Alliance Church. Cremation and interment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.

William Nevils

Father William Howard Paul Nevils, age 72 of Tazewell, Tenn., was born April 25, 1940, and passed away February 11, 2013, at Tennova Hospice Center in Knoxville, Tenn. He was the Priest of the Episcopal Church for 45 years. He was a graduate of Carson Newman College and Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary.

He was preceded in death by his father: G. Howard Nevils esq.

He is survived by his mother: Thelma Nevils Reed. Children: Melanie Claire Pond and husband Jeremy Rollin of Eugene, Ore.; Philippa Sarah Murphy and husband Wayne Chad of Mukilto, Wash.; Andrew Paul Nicholas Nevils and wife Amber Leslie Geals of Issaquah, Wash. Grandchildren: Keegan Levi Pond, Tatum Allison Pond, Brennan Chad Murphy, Madeline Wynter Murphy, Evan Alexander Nevils, Avery Nicole Nevils.

The Burial Office and Requiem Mass was read and celebrated Thursday, February 14, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Cathedral, 413 Cumberland Ave., Knoxville, Tenn., with Bishop George D. Young III, the Rev. Canon Stephen Askew and the Rev. Mother Mary Margaret Blanchard officiating.

Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fairview Cemetery in New Tazewell, Tenn.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Matthias the Apostle Episcopal Church, 415 West Main Street, Rogersville, TN 37857.
