The new Tenn. Highway 33 bridge that goes across Norris Lake in Union County is scheduled to be open to traffic by Aug. 31, 2014, according to Claiborne County Mayor Jack Daniels.
For many local residents, the bridge is located on the main route from Claiborne County to the nearest large city, Knoxville.
Daniels said he has spent countless hours making phone calls regarding the construction on what’s commonly called “the 33 bridge.”
“I’ve received information from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) on the status of this ongoing project,” he said. “Per TDOT’s current schedule, bid proposals were being reviewed this month.”
The removal of the old bridge and the project’s 100 percent completion date is scheduled to occur by Dec. 31, 2014.
“I will continue to work diligently to help move this project along and to address the concerns of not only the citizens of Claiborne County, but also our industry leaders who are concerned about this TDOT project,” he added.
