The driver of a tractor-trailer that overturned on a stretch of U.S. Hwy. 25E near the intersection with Lower Caney Valley Road Sunday afternoon was charged with driving under the influence (DUI).
Jay Cogdill, 45, of Lincolnton, N.C., was driving the truck northbound on U.S. 25E when he failed to negotiate a curve and it landed on its side in the southbound lane, according to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).
The wreck occurred around 1 p.m.
The truck blocked both lanes of the highway for approximately three hours Sunday.
Cogdill was transported by the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office to Claiborne County Hospital. A passenger in the vehicle refused to be treated, according to the THP report.
Cogdill was charged with DUI, failure to maintain due care, possession of alcohol in a commercial vehicle, registration violation and financial responsibility.
In addition to the THP and Claiborne Co. Sheriff’s Department, the Claiborne County Emergency Medical Service, Springdale Volunteer Fire Department and Claiborne County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management responded to the scene.
Trooper Jason Davis is investigating the incident.
