Members of Lincoln Memorial University’s (LMU) Enactus team are working to fight hunger by participating in the 2012-2013 Let’s Can Hunger initiative, sponsored by Campbell Soup Company.

The LMU team will be collecting canned food for two local food pantries, including Servolution in Claiborne County and Cooperative Christian Ministry in Bell County, Ky.

The team has set an ambitious goal of raising 15,000 cans this year, roughly triple the amount they collected for the program a year ago.

Campbell’s Let’s Can Hunger is a competition that mobilizes Enactus teams in the United States to measure and demonstrate a comprehensive approach to addressing hunger. Teams will organize and execute food drives for urgent hunger relief and empower those in need to defeat the cycle of hunger.

The LMU Enactus team will be collecting canned food through March 20.

Donations may be dropped off at LMU’s Business Education building. Additionally, Food City in Middlesboro, Ky., will also be collecting donations on the team’s behalf.

“Considering Feeding America estimates that one in six people in America do not know where their next meal will come from,” said Dustin Fowler, LMU Enactus project manager, “coupled with our current economic climate, it’s more important than ever to lend a helping hand to our neighbors, as well as empower food insecure populations to defeat the cycle of hunger.”

LMU Enactus will compile an entry to the Campbell’s competition. Entries submitted for the Campbell’s Let’s Can Hunger initiative will be evaluated by a panel of representatives from Campbell Soup Company. Teams have a chance to win finalist and grand prizes for their excellent work.
