The Jr. Pro basketball season-ending title games were held Saturday, with Soldiers Memorial Middle School hosting the championship games for the girls ages 10-12, boys 10-12 and boys 13-15.
The Mavericks battled the Clippers in the girls’ game with the Mavericks taking a 21-12 victory. The winning Mavericks team consisted of Valoree Rouse, Kaylee Cox, Mikayla Davis, Marilyn Smith, Brooke McMichael, Mara Hess, Sara Fultz, Shay Hess and Sydney Morelock. They were coached by Danny McMichael.
In the 10-12 boys’ action, the Todd Stone coached Mavericks also took the title in their age group by defeating the Nuggets in a very close game, 32-28. Team members included: Braden Williams, Elijah Beason, Michael Clark, Ty Stone, Blaine Caylor, Austin Surber, Jimmy Del Irwin and Eli Stone.
During the 13-15 boys’ championship game the Clippers narrowly defeated the Lakers, 29-28. The Clippers, coached by John Bull, included members Jacob Melton, Owen Pinkerman, Isaiah Cloud, Blake Hill, Joseph Hickman, T.J. Duncan, Tristan Bridges, Matthew Walker and Josh Bussell.
Springdale also hosted some games. Those results will be in a future edition of the Claiborne Progress.
