Over 200 area high school students attended College Experience Day March 1 at Walters State’s Claiborne County Campus in Tazewell.
Short seminars throughout the day offered help with test anxiety, resumes, college applications, financial aid and other topics. Students from area high schools were mixed up, giving students the chance to meet new friends and get a more realistic college student feeling.
“It’s important to get high school students on a college campus so they can see what it’s like to sit in an actual classroom and meet actual instructors,” said Kim Bolton, head of Walters State’s biology department and interim executive director for the Claiborne County Campus.
“I hope the day also gave some of the high school students confidence. Some of those attending may have realized that college is an option for them,” Bolton said.
Tours of the campus are available to all high school students and can be arranged by calling 423-851-4761.
