Budget Committee

The Claiborne County Budget Committee will meet at the Claiborne County Courthouse in the large courtroom at 6 p.m. on the following dates: Aug. 13.

Claiborne County Historical and Genealogy Society

The Claiborne County Historical and Genealogy Society is located on Old Knoxville Road across from the library. For more information call the office 423-526-5737. We will be open on Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. CCHGS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Claiborne County. Kiwanis Club

The Wilderness Road Kiwanis Club of Harrogate has regular club meetings the second Tuesday and fourth Tuesday of each month at Gondolier in Harrogate. The next meeting is Aug. 25. The meetings will be in the back, glassed-in room of the restaurant at noon. Wilderness Road Kiwanis would like to welcome anyone from the community to attend. Kiwanis is a community service club. The Kiwanis Club’s main focus is to help children in the community. The efforts of Kiwanians support a variety of causes including literacy, leadership, wellness and many other special needs of children. Claiborne County ECDB

The Claiborne County Economic & Community Development Board (ECDB), formerly the Industrial Development Board, will hold its next scheduled meeting at noon on Aug. 14 at The Old Town Grill, 1440 North Broad Street, Tazewell. The public is welcome to attend.

Benefit Ride

There will be a benefit bike ride for Shawn New to help with medical expenses after a motorcycle accident. The ride will be Aug. 15, with registration from 9-11 a.m. at Old Town Grill (OTG) in Tazewell. Kickstands up at 11 a.m. The fee is $20 per bike. The ride begins and ends at OTG. After the ride returns Old Town Grill will offer burger and fries plates for $5 and all sales will be donated to the event. There will be an auction, Baddest Bike Contest (voted on by the crowd) and Loudest Bike Contest. Entertainment will be provided by Southern Steel around 4 p.m., Slick Nickel at 6 p.m. and Bad Decision at 8 p.m. For more information visit the event Facebook page at “The Ride” for Shawn Event Page.

Car Show

The Springdale Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Car, Truck, Tractor and Motorcycle Show Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The show will be held at Springdale Elementary School on US Hwy. 25E South. Admission to the public is free. There is a $15 entry fee for each vehicle, over 100 trophies will be awarded. Vendors are welcome to set up booths for $15 (no food or drink vendors, please). We’ll have good food and good fun so come on out and see the fine vehicles on display that these owners have worked so hard on. All profits go to the Springdale Volunteer Fire Department. Bryant & Johnson Reunion

There will be a truck driving reunion at Shawnee Lodge Hall at 10.30 a.m. on Sept. 5. Please bring a covered dish.

Eldridge Reunion

Here we have another opportunity to come to gather as a clan and swap some happy memories with the younger or next generations. Please share your ideas we want to make the experience enjoyable, if only for the next time. Here are the details (as of this printing) for the reunion: The Eldridge Reunion will be held Labor Day Weekend on Sept. 5 at the Tazewell City Park pavilion and kitchen. It will be held from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Please bring a covered dish item to eat, drinks or a dessert. Bring pictures you want to share. We will try to bring a copier and some picture quality paper, if you would like something copied (donation please). There is always email and Facebook. Please let us know if you plan to make the family reunion with the info provided. Hurst Family and Friends Reunion

The Hurst family and friends reunion will be at Caney Valley American Christian Church on Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. It will be a covered dish meal. All family and friends are invited. There will be a memoral table in memory of the loved ones who are no longer with us. Please contact Jill Duff at 423-626-6767 for more information and if you want to bring a picture for the table. Free Classes

The Claiborne County Adult High School will be offering classes for students to earn credits to receive their Tennessee state high school diploma. Flexible scheduling will be available for both day and evening classes. American Legion Post #109

All veterans are invited to attend monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month. Activities begin at 6 p.m. with a meal. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at 335 Fulkerson Street in Tazewell.

Career Education

Career and Technical Education programs at Claiborne High School and Cumberland Gap High School provide our students the opportunity to participate in a rigorous and relevant career and technical education program that leads to academic achievement and successful employment in a global economy. Claiborne County Pre-K Program

We are now accepting applications for our 2015-2016 school year. You are required to bring your child’s immunization and physical certificate, valid birth certificate, social security number and proof of income. Children registering at these locations must be four before August 15. The Alpha School is now taking applications for children ages 30 months to four years old. Applications can be picked up at The Alpha School, 910 Alpha Dr., New Tazewell.

Clinch-Powell Head Start Registration

The Clinch-Powell Head Start program is currently taking applications for children 3 and 4 years of age at all Head Start Centers in Claiborne County for the 2015-2016 program year. The child must be 3 years old by August 15, 2015, to be age eligible for the program. Services are provided five days a week with centers open 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Transportation services may be provided dependent upon availability. The program provides services to special needs children, including children with severe disabilities. All services, meals and snacks are provided at no cost to the family. Drug Testing

Stand in the Gap Coalition (SIGCO) is sponsoring free saliva-based drug test kits designed to be provided to parents and guardians to keep and use for their children as they feel necessary. The program, Give Me a Reason (GMAR), gives individuals a reason to say no to drugs when tempted by peer pressure or whatever the circumstances are. There are complete information and instructions in each kit. These kits can be obtained at the Stand in the Gap office at 502 Pennlyn Ave. in Cumberland Gap on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and in at least 44 different distribution points in the tri-state area. Harrogate Book Station

There is a book sale until the end of summer at the Harrogate Book Station, located in the Shawanee Depot Building at 310 Bristol Rd., Harrogate. For more information call 423-869-9777.

Homeless Veterans Reintegration Project

Outreach workers Tommy Brooks and Erin Haverland will be available to assist eligible veterans with enrollment in HVRP. The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Project helps veterans find secure employment through case management, job training, and referrals and links with other local service providers. Outreach workers can arrange visits with veterans in outlying areas who are unable to travel to the program office.Veterans Can Help is located at 511 Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917. Keck Reunion

It’s that time again – the third Saturday in July and time for the John Guider and Conrad Keck family reunion. All descendants of the Keck family will gather July 18 at 10.30 a.m. at the Pleasant Point school house. Friends and neighbors are all invited to join in for lunch and fun.

Riverview Cemetery

Rose Cemetery

Shoemaker Cemetery

Donations are needed for the upkeep of Shoemaker Cemetery. If you have loved ones whose final resting place is in this beautiful cemetery, your help is greatly needed. Thompson Chapel Cemetery

Town of Tazewell BMA

The board meetings for the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the Town of Tazewell are conducted at Tazewell City Hall at 1830 Main Street, the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. The BMA workshops are on Wednesday prior to the scheduled board meeting at 6 p.m. as needed. The public is invited to attend all meetings of the board.

Tri-State Christian Academy

Tri-State Christian Academy is now accepting applications for K-3 through 12th grade. The school is located in Arthur. For more information call 423-869-8008.

Woods Cosby Cemetery

Wylie Cemetery
