American Legion Post #109

All veterans are invited to attend monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month. Activities begin at 6 p.m. with a meal. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at 335 Fulkerson Street in Tazewell.

Budget Committee Meetings

The Claiborne County Budget Committee will meet in the large courtroom at the Claiborne County Courthouse, located on Main Street in Tazewell, at 6 p.m. on the following days: June 18, June 23 and June 25. The public is invited to attend.

Cave Spring Cemetery

A special meeting is being called for the Cave Spring Cemetery Association for June 19 at 7 p.m. in the Cave Spring Church. All interested please come to this meeting.

Claiborne County Correctional Partnership Act Committee

The CCCPAC (commonly known as the Jail Committee) will meet at the training room of the Justice Center at 4:30 p.m. on June 25.

Claiborne County Historical and Genealogy Society

The Claiborne County Historical and Genealogy Society will hold its regular monthly meeting June 20 at 3:30 p.m. This is a week later than usual as we will have a booth at the Genealogy Jamboree in Cumberland Gap June 11, 12 and 13. The public is cordially invited and election of officers will be held. The society is located on Old Knoxville Road across from the library. For more information call the office 526-5737. Research hours are Sundays from 1-5 p.m. CCHGS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Claiborne County. Claiborne County Pre-K Program

We are now accepting applications for our 2015-2016 school year. You are required to bring your child’s immunization and physical certificate, valid birth certificate, social security number and proof of income. Children registering at these locations must be four before August 15. The Alpha School is now taking applications for children ages 30 months to four years old. Applications can be picked up at The Alpha School, 910 Alpha Dr., New Tazewell.

Claiborne County Rescue Squad

The Claiborne County Rescue Squad started their annual door-to-door picture fundraiser June 8. Anyone who participates with a $20 or more contribution will receive one free 8×10 family portrait. You will be contacted at your residence. Thank you for your support.

Clinch-Powell Head Start Registration

The Clinch-Powell Head Start program is currently taking applications for children 3 and 4 years of age at all Head Start Centers in Claiborne County for the 2015-2016 program year. The child must be 3 years old by August 15, 2015, to be age eligible for the program. Services are provided five days a week with centers open 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Transportation services may be provided dependent upon availability. The program provides services to special needs children, including children with severe disabilities. All services, meals and snacks are provided at no cost to the family. Drug Testing

Stand in the Gap Coalition (SIGCO) is sponsoring free saliva-based drug test kits designed to be provided to parents and guardians to keep and use for their children as they feel necessary. The program, Give Me a Reason (GMAR), gives individuals a reason to say no to drugs when tempted by peer pressure or whatever the circumstances are. There are complete information and instructions in each kit. These kits can be obtained at the Stand in the Gap office at 502 Pennlyn Ave. in Cumberland Gap on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and in at least 44 different distribution points in the tri-state area. Foster Parenting Classes

Camelot will be conducting foster parenting classes begining July 7. Classes will be held at Camelot’s LaFollette Office located at 240 W. Central Ave., LaFollette. Gulley Family Gathering

All family members of the late B.F. and Bertha Gulley of Harrogate are welcome to attend the reunion. It will be at C.J. Brown Dam and Revervoir on June 27 at 11 a.m. The address is 2630 Croft Rd., Springfield, Ohio 45503. There is a playground area for the children.

Harrogate Book Station

There is a book sale from now until the end of summer at the Harrogate Book Station, located in the Shawanee Depot Building at 310 Bristol Rd., Harrogate. For more information call 423-869-9777.

Homeless Veterans Reintegration Project

Outreach workers Tommy Brooks and Erin Haverland will be available to assist eligible veterans with enrollment in HVRP. The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Project helps veterans find secure employment through case management, job training, and referrals and links with other local service providers. Outreach workers can arrange visits with veterans in outlying areas who are unable to travel to the program office. In Knoxville, call 865-546-4813 for more information.

Kiwanis Club

The Wilderness Road Kiwanis Club of Harrogate has regular club meetings the second Tuesday and fourth Tuesday of each month at Gondolier in Harrogate. The meetings will be in the back, glassed-in room of the restaurant at noon. Wilderness Road Kiwanis would like to welcome anyone from the community to attend. Kiwanis is a community service club. The Kiwanis Club’s main focus is to help children in the community. The efforts of Kiwanians support a variety of causes including literacy, leadership, wellness and many other special needs of children. Library Summer Reading Program

The Claiborne County Public Library’s summer reading program, “Every Hero Has a Story,” began June 9. The program is open to children preschool through 12 years. The schedule of programs is as follows:

June 23 – Magician Michael Messing will be performing.

June 30 – Balloon artist, clown and storyteller David Claunch will be performing.

July 7 – The Zoomobile from the Knoxville Zoo will be at the Library.

July 14 – National History Educational Company will present Heroic Herps with live reptiles and insects.

July 21 – End of Summer Reading Program Party with a clown, balloons, games and face painting.

Light the Night 5K

The Physician Assistant Program class of 2016 at LMU-DCOM will present the Light the Night 5K RACE on June 19. Registration begins at 7:30 p.m. and the race begins at 8:30 p.m. at the Harrogate City Park, located at 150 TN-63, Harrogate, Tenn. All proceeds from the race benefit go to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, which will benefit Food for Kids. Registration for adults is $35 before April 30 and $40 afterward. Youth 18 and under may register for $20 before April 30 or $25 afterward. Registration fee includes entry into the race with chip timing, a Light the Night 5K T-shirt and two glow bracelets and necklaces. To register or for more information, visit www.LMUPA5K.com.

Mammography Unit

The UT Medical Center’s Mobile Mammography Unit will provide digital screenings at Harrogate City Hall on June 19 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Please call the UT Breast Health Outreach Program at 865-305-9753 to schedule an appointment or for further information.

Shoemaker Cemetery

Donations are needed for the upkeep of Shoemaker Cemetery. If you have loved ones whose final resting place is in this beautiful cemetery, your help is greatly needed. Thompson Chapel Cemetery

Town of Tazewell BMA

The board meetings for the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the Town of Tazewell are conducted at Tazewell City Hall at 1830 Main Street, the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. The BMA workshops are on Wednesday prior to the scheduled board meeting at 6 p.m. as needed. The public is invited to attend all meetings of the board.

Tri-State Christian Academy

Tri-State Christian Academy is now accepting applications for K-3 through 12th grade. The school is located in Arthur. For more information call 423-869-8008.

Woods Cosby Cemetery

Young Family Reunion
