Chris England, Alex England and their family would like to announce the ground breaking and opening of a new beef and pork processing facility located behind Dogwood Heights on Baldwin Road in Tazewell.

“The business is behind schedule, but is now open for our customers’ business. We have been constructing the facility ourselves over the past couple of years to ensure the facility quality is equal to the quality we want to provide to our customers,” Chris England said.

During the construction process United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) personnel has visited the Down Home Processing premises and worked with them on facility codes and standards. Three team members have already completed USDA courses and are Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) certified.

Down Home is currently able to process cows and hogs with vacuum sealing available. They are also able to process deer. Vacuum sealing is available for deer as well. They have separate hanging coolers on-site to keep deer separate from cows and hogs.

USDA certification is pending; after that is received Down Home will be able to sell whole carcasses or individual cuts to the public.

Down Home Processing will be announcing a grand opening date in the near future. They are located at 375 Baldwin Road in Tazewell. They are scheduling appointments now – for more information call 423-626-COWS(2697).
