An argument between inmates lodged inside the Claiborne County Jail ramped up recently to physical force, sending one prisoner to the Claiborne Medical Center with serious injuries.
Other inmates were apparently drawn into the altercation that led to the hospitalization of one of their own, according to Claiborne County Sheriff’s investigator Tim Shrout.
The name of the injured inmate, Shrout said, is being withheld due to possible acts of retaliation.
Jonathan T. Whitaker, 26, and Thomas E. Seals, 35, are charged with aggravated assault and are awaiting arraignment before Judge Robert Estep in Claiborne General Sessions Court.
Sheriff David Ray says this type of behavior from inmates will not be tolerated.
“Any and all criminal acts that may occur within the Claiborne County Jail will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest,” said Ray.
