Gilpins celebrate 60 years


Joseph (Jay) and Jewell Gilpin, of Rogersville, Tenn., are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married June 16, 1955 in Tazewell, Tenn. with Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. Jewell is the daughter of the late Rev. Clifford Yeary and Ruby Stanley Yeary, of Ewing, Va. She graduated from Thomas Walker High School and took several courses in Bible history at Lincoln Memorial University. She was ordained by the late Ellis Allen in Rose Hill, Va., in June 1981. Joseph is the son of the late Garrett Gilpin, of Ewing, Va., and Ora Wells Gilpin, of Crab Orchard, Ky. He retired from the postal service in 1994 in Harrogate, Tenn., after 24 years of service. They have three children: David Gilpin, of Middlesboro, Paul Gilpin, of Harrogate, Tenn., and Karen Fay Ramsey, of Bean Station, Tenn.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. They celebrated their anniversary on June 6 in Bean Station, Tenn., with family and friends.
