Local athlete Mark Nunn competed in his first mixed martial arts contest in a Caged Aggression Fight League promotion in Rockwood, Tennessee. After several months of training with Mike England, Richard Neeley, Scott Rosenbalm, Danny Ramsey and Brandon Campbell he entered the ring with his opponent James Newton. Both fighters weighed in at 175 pounds as the match began. In round one Nunn was outmatched by a stronger opponent but survived to begin the second round where he took control of the fight and grabbed a victory by a technical knockout as the round was nearing its end. When asked about his performance Nunn stated, “I had a solid performance against a stronger opponent. He was gassed at the end of round one and I felt that I had control as round two began. He threw a big right and we clinched up and he went for a take down in which I reversed and mounted him. I then used my hands to throw some good punches causing the referee to stop the fight. Newton had cut a lot of weight before the fight to even be in the same class as me and was a classy fighter and great athlete.” Nunn would like to thank Brawler University, Doc’s Gym and all of his trainers and training partners as well as his family, friends and all that had supported him. Nunn intends to return to training in advance of another fight at or around the start of 2010.
