The shooting that occurred Sunday caused confusion between citizens and even law enforcement officials.
It was reported from officials with New Tazewell Police Department on Monday that the door of Advance Auto Parts had been shot at by a man in the parking lot; this report was incorrect.
According to employees at Advance Auto, the shooting took place in the parking near Advance and a truck was the target of the shooting not the door of the store.
“There was no shooting at Advance,” said DeLynn Lovin, manager of the store, “He shot at a vehicle in the parking lot of Food City.”
Donald Eugene Brooks allegedly shot at a truck in the parking lot and it is believed the reason Advance became the supposed location of the shooting is because employees at the store called 911.
The information that Brooks was located at the Shell gas station in Dogwood Heights was correct.
Officers with the New Tazewell Police Department took Brooks into custody and the investigation was then turned over to Captain Wayne Mewhinney.
Brooks is being held in the Claiborne County Jail with no bond on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, Felony Reckless Endangerment and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
