Play ball! New Tazewell Little League holds opening day

The New Tazewell Little League baseball teams celebrated their opening day of the 2014 season on a beautiful spring day Saturday.It was an all-day celebration as the parking lot filled up and then spilled over into a neighboring field. Joining the New Tazewell baseball and softball teams in the celebration were the teams from Harrogate’s Little League. All together, there were nearly 30 games played covering the entire day.League president Gary Lynn Brooks talked about what the event meant.“The opening day festivities gives the kids a chance to come together and celebrate the great game of baseball,” he said.

 

Panthers top Bulldogs in rivalry baseball

The Rutledge Middle School baseball team rolled into Claiborne County last week looking to defeat a good Claiborne team on their home field at Claiborne High School.The weather looked promising as the two teams took the field to begin the game but old man winter had teased the coaches into believing that the spring game could be played.
