Wynn’s Bulldogs made the trip into Claiborne County for a season opening game of basketball against Midway’s Red Devils. An early advantage by the home team quickly disappeared and in the end Wynn was more than delighted to take the 38-26 victory back home.
Jimmy Del Ervin looked great for the Red Devils early during the opening period and led his team to a 11-8 first quarter score. Wynn exploded during the second period to turn the game around and finished with the lead at the half 20-11. Wynn’s defensive effort plus Midway’s inability to drop in layups and short shots under the goal kept them from scoring a single second quarter point.
The Devils rallied during the third period and got close on the score board. The score was 29-20 after three periods mostly due to the efforts of Sammy Day doing great work under the rim on both ends of the floor. Wynn outlasted the Midway run and cruised away to a 38-26 victory.
Wynn was led by Alek Bruce with 12 points also leading both teams in scoring.
Midway was led by Sammy Day with 11 points. Jimmy Del Ervin finished with seven points. Matthew Hubbard dropped in four points. Levi Peoples and Gavin Sweet rounded out the Devils scoring total with two points each.
The stands were filled with several former players at Midway over the years but unfortunately they saw their former team take a tough season opening loss.
