Lady Indians defeat Lady Dragons

Many around Claiborne County have been impressed with the Powell Valley basketball teams and the people at Forge Ridge Elementary got a look at these teams Nov. 10. The first game of the evening featured the Lady Indians doing battle with the Lady Dragons.

Powell Valley started the game out scoring quickly as they dropped in eight points and gave up four. The Lady Dragons are a work in process and have the size to be troublesome come tournament district play if all comes together.

Mental mistakes and passing woes allowed the Lady Indians to drop in 12 easy points while the Lady Dragons struggled to score. At the half the score was 20-9 and could not find their momentum.

The third period was also won by the Lady Indians 7-2 and the Lady Dragons were trying to find anything that would get them some easy looks.

During the final period, the Lady Dragons found what they were looking for but they ran out of time and finished the final period outscoring the Lady Indians 10-9 but losing the game 36-21.

Six Lady Indians recorded scores including Kayli Hinckley with a game leading 16 points. Taya Ausmus dropped in seven, Brett Asbury six, Emily McNew three and two others scored two point ts each: Alana Bean and Olivia Williams.

Three Lady Dragons wrote scores in the book including Haylee Sturgill with nine points. Abbie Fultz scored eight and the scoring total was rounded out by Shelby Brewer’s four points.
