The Clairfield Lady Eagles hosted the Jellico Lady Blue Devils November 17 for two games of rivalry basketball. Things did not go the Lady Eagles way as they got behind in this one and could not find the basket. At the final buzzer the visiting Jellico team had went home with a 28-2 victory.
Lilie Ward got started early on in this game and got her Lady Blue Devils out front 8-0 during the opening period of play. They took the 8-0 run and added to it during the second period to lead 15-0 at the halftime break.
During the third period, it was evident that the Clairfield defense was not doing all that bad because despite their lack of scoring the Lady Eagles could hit a few baskets in a row and be right in the game; those baskets didn’t fall many of them just missing their mark.
The third period was again won by Jellico who placed eight more points on the scoreboard but in the final period they only placed five points up. Clairfield on the other hand, finally saw one of their shots fall through the cylinder off the hands of McKenzie Lamlin but unfortunately that was the home team’s only basket of the evening and Jellico took the 23-2 win.
Sharing time with Lamlin on the court for the Lady Eagles were Riley Cobb, Samara Mkiddy, Carly Mozingo, Faith McCloud, Sara Ball, Bailey Taylor and Katelin Kemplen.
Jellico’s leading scorer was Ward with 14 points.
