The win-less Claiborne High School Lady Bulldogs have been close to getting a season-changing first win during many games this season, but at long last the Lady Bulldogs finally captured their first win with a 41-38 victory over the Washburn Lady Pirates.
The game started off with slow scoring on both ends of the court but Claiborne led by five points 7-2 after period number one.
The scoring picked up during the second period and the Lady Pirates steadied the ship somewhere scoring nine but unfortunately they gave up 11 to the home team finishing the first half with an 18-11 point deficit showing on the scoreboard.
Cheyenne Tolliver had her best period of the game during the third, as she scored nine of her team-leading 15 points. Claiborne tried to give this game away by allowing the Lady Pirates to outscore them during the second half but they had enough of a lead to put away the visiting team and secure their first win of the season. The final score was 41-38.
Seven Lady Bulldogs recorded scores with Tolliver leading the way. Marilyn Smith dropped in 11 points. Jaden Thompson and Emma Beason dropped down four points through the nets. Kaylee Cox (#23) finished with three points while Kaylee Cox (#25) and Abby Ferguson scored two points each. It took a team effort and great coaching to finish this game out with the much needed win. Claiborne fans hope that the win will lead them to more in the upcoming weeks.
Brandy Beeler and Haley Nicely led the Lady Pirates with 13 points each.
