The Cumberland Gap Panthers Middle School Baseball team ended their 2017 Season last week with a win in the District Championship over rival Oneida Indians. The game ended with a walk off hit by Jeremiah Cannon giving the Panthers a 5-4 victory.

The team went 12-5 on the season and were undefeated in district play. The eighth grade leadership of the team was key to the Panthers’ winning season. Noah Robertson led the team in a number of offensive categories, including batting with a .500 average. He also led in number of hits, runs, stolen bases, OPS, hit-by-pitch and on-base percentage. Jeremiah Cannon batted .375 and led the team in home runs and RBI.

On the mound Cannon went 5-1 with a 1.35 ERA. Peyton Wilder had a perfect 4-0 season on the mound and took the win in the district championship game. First and third bases were defensively locked down by Wesley Brooks and Nate Ryhlick.

The Panthers celebrated their success and eighth grade night with their final game against Thomas Walker at Lincoln Memorial University’s Lamar Hennon Field. Noah Robertson, Jeremiah Cannon, Peyton Wilder, Wesley Brooks, Nate Ryhlick and Justin Moore were all named to the 2017 All-District Team. Congratulations to the CGMS Panthers.
