The 2015 New Tazewell Little League baseball and softball season ended once again with its annual jamboree. Every team played June 13 in heat that was only broken occasionally by a cloud and an occasional breeze.

The players took to the fields at C.W. Gose Municipal park and put out effort in what would be most players’ final game of the year. Players also voted for their All-Star team members, bought photos and enjoyed fund raising booths by the Midway Cheerleaders.

The event began in the early morning hours and ended late in the evening. Although the 2015 season rolled along seemingly smooth it was sometimes challenging for League President Gary Brooks.

“I must say it’s been another successful season but we had a hard time finding coaches especially for the bigger kids. It seemed like every time we had the spot filled something would happen and we would have to find another,” said Brooks. He then added, “We have accomplished several projects this season like our new working scoreboards donated by Rex Callebs of The Sports Center and Dr. Scott Matson of the Women’s Health Center and Primary Care.”

Brooks said the league would like to thank the two men for their donations as well as the crew from Powell Valley Electric and A&P Tree Service.

“As always we would like to thank the City of New Tazewell for the use of the fields and their help with the scoreboards and the continued efforts in applying for grants to purchase new fencing, not only for the fields but for the entire park,” Brooks stated. “Also, the league wishes to thank all volunteers and game officials.”

The All-Star team selections are up next for the league with teams named in only a few days. The teams will immediately begin practicing and the league itself has been named as host for several All-Star tournaments including the State Baseball Tournament for this area.
