LMU lands several athletes on SAC Honor Roll

The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) athletic department placed a school record 95 student-athletes on the 2014-15 South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll to help the league set an all-time record with 1,329 total recipients. Honorees, which in total represent a 102 student-athlete increase from last year’s record-breaking showing, hail from each of the SAC’s 12 member institutions and 18 sponsored sports.

For inclusion on the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, student-athletes are required to have competed in a sponsored championship sport and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher throughout the entire academic year.

“SAC student-athletes are among the most well-rounded individuals on their respective campuses,” said South Atlantic Conference Commissioner Patrick Britz. “I’m extremely proud of the efforts made by our student-athletes and support staffs in making 2014-15 another record-breaking year in the classroom. We had over 100 more honorees this year than in 2013-14 so I think it’s safe say our vision of preparing our student-athletes academically as well as athletically is a reality.”

The LMU women’s soccer team led the way with 12 SAC Honor Roll recipients including All-SAC selections Nicole McKinney (Ooltewah, Tenn.), Michelle Hunter (Tecumseh, Ontario) and Krista Holka (Harrison Township, Mich.).

The men’s golf squad landed 11 student-athletes on the Honor Roll, with 2014-15 SAC Player of the Year Braden Galyon (Powell, Tenn.) and 2013-14 SAC Player of the Year Rand Wasson (Norris, Tenn.) earning a spot on the list.

The Railsplitter baseball team had nine selections, headlined by All-SAC pick Kyle Floyd (Windsor, Ill.). Women’s basketball, women’s golf and men’s soccer each put seven student-athletes on the list, while the women’s cross country and softball teams notched six honorees apiece.

With 95 representatives on this year’s SAC Honor Roll, Lincoln Memorial increased its total by 33 from last year’s list. That number also surpasses the school’s previous benchmark for SAC Honor Roll recipients, set during the 2012-13 academic year (74).
