Shawn Peters has assembled his 2016 girls’ soccer team for Claiborne High School. Tabbed as “team six,” this team has a great mix of seasoned players as well as younger ones.
The team held a practice August 9 with the middle school team joining them. Peters’ assistant and middle school head coach Jason Mustard led the practice working on spacing and speed. The focus was on fundamentals and how and when to attack and defend.
When asked about his team six Peters had this to say, “This may be the most competitive team that we have placed on the field and I personally think we can surprise several teams.”
There are several new players taking the pitch this season and the excitement is definitely there. With the middle school program being a great feeder program, the Lady Bulldogs soccer team is expected to improve. The team is making final preparations before taking the pitch for real in their season and home opener August 16 against Northview Academy.
The 2016 team members include: Kendra England, Ashley Smith, Karli West, Hevan Holt, Shay Hess, Cheyenne Tolliver, Lilly Cope, Cydney Grimm, Jade Noah, Rene Martin, Jazzman Ruiz, Emily Holt, Ruthie Sorke, Caitlyn Smith, Anna Lovin, Rhiannon White, Jayden Thompson, Cassie Banks, Jennifer Woodward, Taylor Chittum and Wednesday Espinoza.
