The Powell River was at its highest level in 41 years Monday. The Powell River, together with the Clinch River, are the two largest free-flowing (undammed) rivers in Tennessee. Over the weekend, the area received approximately 4 1/2 inches of rain and the river rose 25 feet today. The pastures along the river at Well Being Retreat Center in Tazewell were all underwater, as was the parking lot. The road to the cabins was not accessible for some time. The river was expected to crest Monday afternoon.
